17 Tea Vending Shops Turned “Climate Awareness Centers” in Varanasi.

A press conference was organized by the Whistle Blower Trust on Tuesday, 29th March. The conference was held at Child Line Center near Sigra Stadium, Varanasi, and was attended by Ekta, Vallabhacharya Pandey and Father Dilraj from Whistle Blower Trust, Asha Trust and Asmita Sansthan respectively.

 

While talking to the press persons, Ekta, Campaign Manager of the Whistle Blower Trust informed that Tea Vendors located at strategic locations in the city have agreed to volunteer to aware people against critical air pollution in the city. Ekta informed that “Manual Display Boards” have been prepared and will be installed at these tea vending shops. She thanked Asha Trust for the financial support extended for all display boards. Claiming the authenticity of the data provided in the borad, Ekta said that all data being used in the display board are taken from the official website of Central Pollution Control Board.

It should be noted here that the whistle Blower Trust has also developed and launched an android app “Care4Air” in February this year. This app is meant to inform people about the daily air quality index of the city and can be downloaded free of cost from play store.

Mr. Vallabhacharya Pandey from Asha Trust informed the media persons that total 17 tea vending shops have been selected from prominent strategic places from the city and the network will work to inform people about the daily air quality index (the pollutant materials particles and gases) of the Varanasi City.  He also informed that the Tea vending Shops will now be known as “Climate Awareness Centers” and are located at Lanka, Godowlia, Lahurabir, Maidagin, Cantt, Englishiya Line, Sigra and Teliabagh. Praising the efforts made by the Care for Air Campaign, Vallabhacharya added that the list would be extended to other areas soon.

While delivering the vote of thanks to the media fraternity, Father Dilraj said that all sections of the society should come together in the fight against climate change. He also demanded that meaningful approaches and steps should be taken to control climate change and measures taken in New Delhi and Mumbai should also be replicated here too.
